“You, my Royal Oak, are the masterpiece of my career and the magical realisation of a childhood dream” Gérald Genta, designer.
We very often have some wonderful Audemars Piguet watches available here at Armour Winston, so we thought we would take a closer look at this iconic brand!

During the seventies Audemars Piguet shook up the luxury watch market with the Royal Oak watch. The iconic steel look was designed by Gérald Genta and it was a turning point in Audemars Piguet history.
Although there are of course many watch companies, Audemars Piguet is certainly one of quality and class. Many celebrities have been spotted wearing one of these luxury Swiss timepieces, including Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Harry Styles.

The Royal Oak was named after the oak tree that famously protected King Charles II from the Roundheads. The tree became a symbol of power and protection, and the Royal Oak timepiece reflects this. In an era when most luxury watches were gold, the stainless steel watch certainly ensured Audemars Piguet’s independence. It was rather high risk, but the futuristic feel was a hit and today the collection is still instantly recognisable.
In the early nineties a sportier collection was introduced, the Royal Oak Offshore. With a larger 42mm case, it was the world’s first oversized watch. This is the most successful variation of the Royal Oak. Designed by 22-year-old Emmanuel Gueithe, the extreme sport version was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the collection. It features up to 300m water resistance and uses rugged materials like carbon and rubber.
The Offshore eludes masculinity and in 1999 Arnold Schwarzenegger was the perfect person to wear one in End of Days. In 2003, the company continued the sponsorship and in movie Terminator 3, the actor wore the Royal Oak Offshore T3 chronograph.

Audemars Piguet has been crafting complicated watches for women, as well as men, for over 130 years. The brand has proved to be the exception to the rule when combining watchmaking excellence with style. This year, the new Audemars Piguet’s Millenary Collection celebrated 20 years of this unique oval watch design. In 1995 the collection was named the “Millenary” in honour of the impending third millennium.
The Millenary Collection has watches designed specifically for both men and women. However does this idea still make sense today? It is clear that men and women’s watches are interchangeable, and many men prefer watches that would have been considered a feminine size a few years ago. Traditional men’s watches are also soaring in popularity with women. It is often obvious when a brand has a specific gender in mind when they create a certain watch. Audemars Piguet Millenary has certain design elements which suggest a more traditional approach to their ladies watches, with a smaller size and a diamond bezel.
Whether you seek an iconic Royal Oak or a more glamorous Millenary, you will purchase a high quality Swiss watch from a traditional Swiss watchmaker with Audemars Piguet.
