Wimbledon is over for another year and we now have our Champions! Top athletes help to inspire us in many ways, and last week Serena Williams made sure reporters were aware she would like to be simply known as “one of the greatest athletes all time”. We agree, and thought we would celebrate her victory by looking into her luxury watch wardrobe!
Serena Williams became an Audemars Piguet ambassador in 2014. On the court, her Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph (ref.26231OR.ZZ.D010CA.01) in pink gold never seems to leave her wrist. Whilst she has never had an Audemars Piguet watch customised for her, we have seen a familiar 37 mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore in rose gold with a diamond-set white rubber bezel on Serena’s wrist in the past. She actually wore this watch whilst winning her sixth Wimbledon last year too. At Wimbledon last week, Serena was spotted wearing the rose-gold version of the new white Royal Oak Offshore, which does not clash with the all-white dress code set by the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
This stunning watch was originally designed as a men’s chronograph for extreme sports. The Royal Oak Offshore is loved by watch enthusiasts due to its strong athletic character. The new 37 mm Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph for women seems to keep the bold design of the original men’s chronograph, but in a slimmer case. We think the white-coated crown, with matching white rubber strap and bezel set with 32 brilliant-cut diamonds gives the timepiece a beautiful feminine touch.
In 2015, when Williams and Wawrinka won the Singles’ title of the French Open the same weekend, they both wore their AP watches on the wrist. Last week, Serena Williams’ latest title, was her seventh at Wimbledon. The final caught the media’s attention due to being played in front of a star-studded crowd, including Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
Audemars Piguet have launched a new social media ad campaign in honour of Serena Williams (quite rightly so). The “To break the rules, you must first master them” campaign revolves around the famous Rudyard Kipling poem, “If.” Serena fits the brand perfectly and is definitely our inspiration this week. We think she has the best luxury watch taste with Audemars Piguet.
