The Dress Watch

The Dress Watch is perhaps the most jewellery-like of timepieces. It will normally have roman numerals, a simple face, a lack of adornments, and is accompanied with a leather strap. For many, the ideal dress watch is super-thin to be unnoticed under the wearer’s cuff. A dress watch is generally simplistic due to the fact that it doesn’t need any other function bar telling the time. Today however, there are some superb designs. In particular, Patek Philippe has a range of stunning watches in its Calatrava collection.

There is something for everyone Patek’s their current collection, but the ladies’ Calatrava Ref. 4897 particularly stands out to us! Patek Philippe’s presents a new interpretation of its ultra-thin ladies’ Calatrava Ref. 4897 in a warm 18K rose gold case, a dial with a bittersweet chocolate hue, and a bezel adorned with 72 Top Wesselton round diamonds. Wow!

Calatrava History

The first version of the Calatrava was launched in 1932, inspired by the Bauhaus principle. It is recognised as the quintessential watch design today.  Its round case has been reinterpreted in numerous versions, and no other model is more popular than the Ref. 3919 Calatrava with the guilloché “Clous de Paris” bezel introduced in 1985. The first timepiece produced by Patek Philippe was the Ref. 96. At just 31mm in diameter with a slim 9mm thick case, the 96 was completely different in the watch world. Reference 96 was in production for over 40 years (1932 – 1973), which really showed testament to its incredible popularity. Numerous variations have since been developed, however the actual design has barely changed.

Armour Winston Calatrava

We adore the model we currently have available. The Patek Philippe ref.5119J 18 carat yellow gold Calatrava is the latest, and slightly larger model from Patek's range of elegant and slim dress watches. At its heart is Patek's celebrated calibre 215PS movement which is hand wound and visible through a sappphire glass exhibition case back. Our watch, which is in excellent original condition also has the famous hobnail bezel and is 38mm wide.
