For luxury watch enthusiasts, this year will kick off when the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) starts in Geneva on the 18th January. The brands that will exhibiting at this years show will be sure to give us an insight into what we can expect for 2016.
It is the 26th edition and the SIHH will as always, be an exclusive experience where visitors can discover creations that will surprise and intrigue. The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie organises this unique gathering of professionals “to keep the magic of time alive”. This initiative truly shows the desire to appreciate the richness and diversity of high quality watch making. Of course Geneva is the home of fine watchmakers, so the perfect place to host such an event!
For its 26th edition, the circle of exhibitors grows and passes twenty-four houses. The SIHH will inaugurate its first "Carré des Horlogers", a space dedicated to new craftspeople, workshops and independent representatives of the new watches.
The factory was founded in 1875 in Le Brassus (Vallée de Joux, the Jura) by Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet. Both were young entrepreneurs and they decided to combine their skills to design and produce watches with rare complications. Since then, the house, which is still in the hands of the founding families after nearly a century and a half of existence, has worked with the greatest respect for the values that have forged its reputation: tradition, excellence and daring.
We have many fine Audemars Piguet watches available to purchase at our London store in the world famous Burlington Arcade. We especially like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph watch in 18ct yellow gold with matching 18ct yellow gold Audemars Piguet deploy clasp. Introduced at the Basle watch show in 1972 the Gerald Genta designed Audemars Royal Oak was a huge hit as a water resistant sports watch with its designed inspired by a ship's porthole. This 2005 model is in fabulous condition.Read more
Panerai was born in 1860 in Florence, the city of arts and sciences and cradle of the Renaissance. This is the essence of Panerai: a true Italian design that is timeless. A principle which found its finest expression in a revolutionary watchmaking device: the bridge protecting the crown. This innovation has enabled Panerai to develop the first military watch underwater. Due to this Panerai expanded its activities in watchmaking by developing timepieces specially designed for combat swimmers. During the Second World War the Royal Navy’s requirements become very specific: the watches have to remain underwater in extreme conditions for long periods. Therefore, their resistance to extreme tension must also be guaranteed. The Radiomir model dates and 1940s, replaced a decade later by the Luminor.
We currently have a stunning Panerai PAM320 Luminor GMT 2011 watch available at Armour Winston. It has Panerai 'in-house' movement with automatic self-winding mechanism. 300m water resistance and unique patented winding crown locking device.Read more
Founded in 1847 in Paris by Louis-Francois Cartier jeweller, the House was taken over by his three sons in 1899. Named "King of Jewellers, Jeweller of Kings", the brand was quick to turn its attention to its international base, notably by imposing the name Cartier to royal courts of Europe. There are many iconic timepieces by Cartier such as Santos (1904), one of the first wristwatches, Turtle ( 1912) or the tank (1919). Followed by other creations also noticed like Pasha, Santos 100, the Ballon Bleu or Calibre.
We absolutely love this Cartier Men's Santos 100 XL' Automatic Chronograph 2010 model. It is available in our shop now and this exclusive Cartier Men's Santos 100 XL',W20090X8 features a solid square stainless steel case with genuine black alligator leather strap.Read more
We think there are a few of things in particular to look out for at SIHH 2016. Complicated mechanisms and true showstoppers, as well wearable technology (we have seen plenty of smartwatches recently). We are looking forward to seeing what innovation and design will be brought to SIHH this year!
SIHH is on in Geneva, Switzerland from the 18th to 22nd January. www.sihh.org
