As you may have spotted in my last post, I have been away on holiday diving in the Great Barrier Reef! Now that I am back in London, I thought it would be best to have a look at the highlights of SIHH 2017, a major attraction for all fine watch professionals. I certainly kept up with the excitement of the 27th Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie and here at Armour Winston, we couldn’t go without telling you about our favourite watches this year!
Every January for the past couple of decades, brands from Cartier to Jaeger-LeCoultre jointly host a watch fair in Geneva called the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève (SIHH). Each year other luxury watch brands showcase their new watches to wholesalers, retailers, and the press.
So what timepieces stood out for us this year?
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15202 - full Yellow Gold
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in yellow gold is a watch that some would perhaps not want to wear every day. The main reason being that it is a solid yellow gold Royal Oak! However I think it is a perfect timepiece to wear often. Not only is it a wearable size, but with the gold face it really does stand out on the wrist. There is still a definite seventies vibe currently among menswear and nothing is more vintage looking than the Audemars Piguet’s new yellow gold additions to the Royal Oak range. It is a true throwback to the first gold editions of the timepiece launched in 1977.
I personally would love to get my hands on one of their new frosted gold Royal Oak watches (ref 67653OR.GG.1263OR.01). For the 40th anniversary of the women’s Royal Oak, Italian jeweller Carolina Bucci created the stunning Royal Oak Frosted Gold. The case is hammered 18-carat pink gold, and the silver-toned dial has the “Grande Tapisserie” pattern with pink gold applied hour-markers. It is such so wonderfully shimmery, we all just love it!
Sticking with the sparkly theme, just look at this amazing creation from Cartier! I am afraid the photo doesn’t do it justice. At SIHH there were many beautiful watches from the "panthère" line that Cartier is pushing this year, but this diamond, white gold and black timepiece was a showstopper! Some versions are extremely simple and elegant from the Cartier panthère collection, however the ones with diamonds were truly eye catching. Just look at this 36mm Royale de cartier in 18 white gold and diamonds. It certainly is a special collection that was shown off in style this year in Geneva!
60th anniversary Piaget Altiplano
Finally, lets talk about a collection that is a bit less daring but stunning all the same. In celebration of their birthday, Piaget announced two new Altiplano watches, the Altiplano Manual-Winding 38 mm watch (G0A42107) and the Altiplano Self-Winding 43 mm watch (G0A42105), each in the distinctive and iconic blue of Piaget.
They are as much a jeweller as a watchmaker in the present day, but Piaget started as a maker of timepieces. The brand became popular in 1957 when it introduced the slim calibre 9P, one of the thinnest movements ever made. The anniversary editions share the same design derived from the 1960s original. We think it makes a perfect dress watch with that retro vibe. The baton markers on the vintage originals actually just printed, but the ones on the two commemorative editions are applied 18k white gold. Along with the dark blue strap and dial, it really is a timeless classic.
We have some beautiful Audemars Piguet and Cartier in store now, so please do have look here to find out more. See you next year SIHH!
