What watch will the new James Bond wear?

Daniel Craig Skyfall watch

It has been in the headlines recently that Daniel Craig has apparently turned down a big deal to play James Bond again. Therefore speculation about who will take over the iconic role is well and truly underway!  Not only will they have to take over wearing fine suits and drive stunning cars, they will have a choice of a luxury watch to wear… lucky 007!

Bond and watch enthusiasts will know of the strong history of watch timepieces throughout the different 007 actors. From Rolex and OMEGA, watch brands having an association with the Bond films can only go one way. Models such as the Rolex Submariner grew even more popular after Bond wore one, and James’s Bond’s style has never gone out of fashion!

There have been numerous timepieces appearing in the Bond films, but only a few have reoccurred again. These include the Rolex Submariner, the Omega Seamaster 300m, and Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean. The Rolex Submariner first appeared in Dr. No (1962). Apparently Rolex actually declined to supply a watch for free, so co-producer, Cubby Broccoli, lent Sean Connery his own Submariner 6538. Rolex was then used in several movies, Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and Live and Let Die to name a few.

As product placement became much more popular in movies, a “more British” watch timepiece was required.  From the early 90’s the 007 franchise partnered with Omega in the movie GoldenEye (1995). Pierce Brosnan made his Bond debut wearing the Omega Seamaster 300m 2541.80.00.

This did get us wondering about the new choices of James Bond and whether the Omega relationship will still carry on! In Spectre, Daniel Craig wore a Seamaster 300M Master Co-Axial. It is quite similar in style to the Rolex Submariner from 007’s Rolex years. Could Rolex come back around again?

Aidan Turner

The latest updates are now revealing that Aidan Turner seems to have overtaken Tom Hiddleston to become the favourite for the role.  Other frontrunners mentioned are Idris Elba and Tom Hardy. Whoever is announced soon, we just know that their watch choice will influence a lot of style decisions after the film is released. We can’t wait!
