We are welcoming the return of yellow gold this year! That throwback to the seventies is still lurking throughout the fashion world, and gold accessories are currently trending for both men and women. We especially love this because it means we can enjoy the vast array of luxury yellow gold watches. Let’s take a look at some of our favourites for Christmas….
We need to start with the classic and iconic Rolex Day-Date. In 1956, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date made its debut. It was only available in 18 ct gold or platinum, and it was the first wristwatch to display the date and day of the week spelt out in full in a window on the dial. The President bracelet was originally created for the Day-Date, and this prestigious model has been worn by more presidents, leaders and visionaries than any other watch.
The Rolex Day Date 40 (ref. 228238) certainly holds the same stunning qualities that the first one did 60 years ago. The yellow gold timepiece will be instantly recognisable on the wrist. Why would you not want to wear a watch known as the “presidents’ watch”?
We like to see today that many women embrace wearing a larger sized Rolex Day-Date. It is not all about the petite wrist watch for the ladies anymore, and everyone likes to make a statement after all! Jennifer Aniston certainly does, and her gold Rolex Day Date even looks wonderful with her casually styled outfit.
Another luxury brand striking gold is Audemars Piguet, with their new yellow gold additions to the Royal Oak range. This draws from their very first gold editions which were introduced in 1977. The Royal Oak Yellow Gold editions (ref.26574BA) combines gold with the most classic complication in all of watchmaking. There is definitely a retro feel with these watches and most of the models have the Royal Oak’s “grand tapisserie" dial in deep blue or off-white. They are available a variety of sizes, and one is aimed at the ladies with its beautiful diamond-filled bezel.
Finally, as much as we raved about Patek Philippe last week, we couldn’t discuss gold watches without mentioning Patek’s Annual Calendar in yellow gold (ref. 5146/1J-001). We particularly like the cream dial with gold hour markers and numerals. The Patek Philippe Annual Calendar collection offers a variety of options, such as a power reserve, moon phase, or chronograph. They are not only aesthetically pleasing, but these timepieces are technically refined and extremely durable. Whilst it comes in a variety of designs, the yellow gold will certainly give you that bit of wrist candy!
Gold has for years been a symbol of wealth, however it does come in and out of fashion. Yellow gold for a while was viewed as being a little too “blingy”, however it now gives a vintage vibe that looks extremely sophisticated.
